So, late last week...the horror interwebz was all a buzz when news broke that a third Halloween film was to be made. Adding fuel to that fire was Scout Taylor-Compton tweeting Dread Central that she was excited to "jump back into Laurie Strode's mindset". We gotta talk to Scout's agent about revising her tweeting habits.
So, this comes as quite the little eye-opener because if Scout's tweet was not just the smoke-blowing kind, it certainly raises some eyebrows. The very first thing that I thought of was that casting Scout would be somewhat picking up where Rob Zombie left off. At least in the familiar faces department. And that might very well mean that the Weinstein Company is too lazy to go off and cast any new talent...so, perhaps Tyler Mane and Malcolm McDowell may also return? I had the privilege of speaking to both Scout and Mr. McDowell a few years back at a convention where they both indicated that production was to begin very soon and that they would both be reprising their roles, which seemed a little weird to me because we all know how Loomis ended up at the end of the second Zombie film. But, whatever...Hollywood's a funny place. So, maybe casting McDowell again would mean that the studio was just going to forget about the suckfest of Halloween 2? Grant it...this is all speculation at this point.
However, what isn't speculation is the fact that the Weinstein Company is indeed moving forward with a third Halloween film. Here's the direct quote from the official Halloween website:
“As we stated before, we are dedicated to the fans of the Halloween series just as much as we are dedicated to delivering a film that we believe the fans deserve and will, most importantly, love. With that being said, we can confirm that a new installment of Halloween is indeed in on track and moving forward. We are currently developing a script, to finally bring Michael back to the theaters!”
So, while the particulars are not yet in place. We still do not know if Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier are picking up where they left off just before the third film was first abandoned...or if they are involved, for that matter. Absolutely no one is confirmed for any kind of casting news whatsoever and we don't even know if it will be the once planned Halloween 3D. All we have to go on is the fact that the Weinstein Company are piecing together a new script and Scout's insanely hot selfies and misguided tweets. Next time...tweet @TheFilmDeviant, Scout...sheesh!
Anyway, any news regarding Michael Myers coming back to theaters is a welcome one. Just as long as he's not a hillbilly. In the meantime...WATCH THE MAGIC PUMPKIN...WATCH...
