The past few weeks I have been extremely busy with my 9 – 5 job and, on top of that, the amount of new streams to even suggest was strikingly low. I was actually getting a bit downtrodden. But then I watched all of The Walking Dead episodes that I wasn't caught up with and I was instantly re-invigorated. This year in television was actually pretty fucking great for horror fans, with at least three shows that were big in the genre. So, I’m doing something a bit different this week. As I've not watched any of the three shows I'll be discussing, I challenge anyone who hasn't started them either to join me down the rabbit hole to see if they're really worth a damn.
And now, this week’s BLOODY STREAMS.
Bates Motel (2013 - )
What horror fan doesn’t enjoy checking into the Bates Motel every once in a while. I love the story, the surroundings and the creepiness that Norman has always brought with his character. Now, we finally get to see what made the man who he is today. This show picks up with Norman as a teenager as he and his mother, Norma, are renovating the titular motel. While I'm seriously excited to see what happens to young Norman, I'm also very excited so be spending more time with Vera Farmiga. She’s hands down one of the best actresses working today, showcased wonderfully in one of my favorite horror films of last year, The Conjuring. So, sit back, relax, grab a newspaper and remember – do not take a shower.
American Horror Story (2011 - )
I really have no reason for not starting this show yet, other than the fact that I don’t have actual cable and I have to wait for things to be available to stream and/or pay for. Season one came and went and, while I was glad there was a decent horror show on regular television, I hadn't heard that it was a must-watch. Then season two came along and out come the supporters in droves. Saying that it was the best horror serial to ever be made, etc. I’m interested to see what I think of it. I do like the way that the seasons are built – like HBO’s True Detective. Each season, while similar in tone and structure, will feature mostly different characters and story arcs. It allows for so many new and interesting ways to spice up a stale series.

Hannibal (2013 - )
A friend just lent me the first season of this on Blu-ray and it also became available to stream for free on Amazon Prime. And, if what I've heard is correct, it’s worth the subscription to that service. If you don't have one, they do offer a 30 day free trial, something to consider. Likes Bates, Hannibal picks up with a horror icon years before we were first introduced to them. In this case, the icon is Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter, subject of novels and films like The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon and one of the best 80’s thrillers, Manhunter. A lot of Hannibal’s past has been discussed and teased upon in those films, but I think it’s going to be great to actually see it for myself. In the immortal and fitting words of world-renowned chef Julia Childes, Bon Appetite!

Resident Evil (2002)
Resident Evil Apocalypse (2004)
I know most of the genre fans that I know scoff at this series, but it’s an undeniable force in helping to solidify the zombie craze of the last decade. And no matter how “stale” zombies are becoming – I’m just grateful that the living fucking dead infiltrated pop culture so rapidly, like the T-virus did all those many years ago. I was first introduced to Resident Evil via the original Sony Playstation. There was one problem though; I didn't have a memory card. That meant every Friday and Saturday night I would play endlessly, scaring the shit out of myself and never getting any further than those 48 hours would allow. I loved every minute of it though. I think the movies, while they are a bit silly and could have been darker/edgier, gave fans of the game series what they wanted; namely, zombies and gunfire. So, here’s the first two; enjoy, deviants.
