Christmas time is here; still not as good as Halloween, but it’s a fun time of the year. Gifts, family, food, time off of work to catch up on all the horror you’ve been missing. Once again, Bloody Streams is here to give you some free or cheap films to stream this week. Enjoy your days off and don’t let anyone tell you that horror can’t be enjoyed every day of the year!
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
I couldn’t not offer a Christmas movie to stream and this one is a classic. It caused a big controversy before it was released because its ad campaign on television showed a murdering Santa Clause and then again upon its release solely based on the content of this film, which shows Santa murdering and being involved in other deplorable behavior. If you’re in the mood for something different or that you may not have seen before – be sure to check out this week’s The Deviant Double Feature. However, if you’ve somehow missed this Christmas massacre, be sure to give it a go.
American Psycho (2000)
It took long enough, right? When I first watched this movie I was just fascinated by it. Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman is such a great role. Patrick is an extremely wealthy bank executive from New York who moonlights as a homicidal maniac that wields chainsaws, butcher knives and randomly brings up Huey Lewis and the News whenever he can. The juxtaposition of Patrick (this slick, healthy, calm and pleasant individual) and his alter ego (a messy, terrifying and crazy misogynist) is a great representation of the movie itself. Beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, funny; all while being gruesome, bloody and all too real. However, probably because of the original source material, it also touches on how trying to fit in and be part of the status quo can drive certain people over the edge. Patrick just needs to get out more. Go hunting maybe, laser tag, a little activity besides serial killing would do him some good. Enjoy this delightful modern cult classic.
Devil’s Pass (2013)
I’m kind of on the fence with this one. Mainly because I really didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did. It was really not bad, though. Going into it, I thought it would be a lot like The Frankenstein Theory, a film I discussed here a couple months back and pretty negatively reviewed – to be honest. It more than deserved to be panned because it was a horrid film. Devil’s Pass, also known as The Dyatlov Incident, structurally, it was similar to Frankenstein, but where that film stole most of its ideas and techniques from other films, Pass at least attempts to create something original. The genesis of the plot comes from a true story about the death of 9 hikers in Russia on February 2, 1952. The official cause of death was “a compelling natural force”. The unexplainable nature of their injuries has caused major speculation as to what really took place. Check out the Wiki page to find out a detailed explanation of the events; it’s such an interesting and compelling read. In the movie a documentary crew decides to make the same trek in an attempt to help uncover what really occurred. Their explanation is most assuredly Hollywood-ized, but at least it’s not been done yet. So, if the basic story doesn’t make you interested in watching, I’d say you could probably give this one a pass. Otherwise, it’s definitely a movie I’ll revisit again as I’m all about a great unsolved mystery.
Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Undead (2011)
I can’t make this shit up, literally. I’d not heard of this movie when it arrived on Netflix last week. I can’t say I’ve seen a much grosser movie than this. I’m fine with blood or even throw-up, but shit really grosses me out. Especially coprophagia – the act of eating shit. This is why The Human Centipede(s) bothered me so much. This movie takes cheese, Japanese culture and grindouse and mixes it into something that has to be seen to be believed. There’s a plot, but it’s not important enough to even get mentioned. Good luck, fellow Deviants, you’re gonna need it. Oh, and bring some toilet paper and a can of air freshener. Note: There are some YouTube copies out there, but none of them are subtitled. You may not even need them, though.
