Does Canadian horror count as foreign? Well...if so, Ginger Snaps is one of my favorite Canadian horror films of all time!
Thanks for watching!
Ginger Snaps is kind of a big deal in the genre. It was not only a sort of coming out party for the talents of the lovely Katharine Isabelle...but, it served as a huge inspiration for upcoming filmmakers of the time. In particular, Canadian filmmakers, the Soska sisters have cited Ginger Snaps as a huge stepping stone in their careers. Would it be a fair assessment to say that if it were not for Ginger Snaps we might never have seen the likes of American Mary? Perhaps. In any case, Jen and Sylvia Soska love the film...and so do we.
It takes the usual werewolf premise and turns it all upside down. I would like to add that Emily Perkins hardly ever gets as much credit for the film as Katharine Isabelle...and she should. It is just as much her film as it is Isabelle's. Both characters are essential to one another and I seriously could not envision another actress in the roles.
Anyway...please enjoy one of the best horror films that Canada has to offer...Ginger Snaps.
Thanks for watching!
