The black widow spider is a beautiful wonder of nature. She resides, mostly, in the dark...left alone to her own devices. Every once in a while, when she surfaces, she entices a male with her beauty and her mystery. If the male is smart...he might retreat in fear. For those that are mesmerized, the black widow spider holds a unique world of unimaginable danger that will steal your heart. Make no mistake, though...she will kill you. Then, possibly, eat you.
Jen and Sylvia Soska are not unlike the elusive black widow. Only, without the eating you part (unless, of course, you're into that kinda stuff). They are quite possibly the most talented twin sister filmmaking duo in the genre of horror. Actually...come to think of it, they may be the only ones. Time will surely tell if they are amongst the best in filmmaking, though. Judging by their first effort (a little film that stole the hearts of many a genre fan the world over called DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK), they definitely have what it takes to create something truly different and entertaining.
Their second film called American Mary will make its world premiere at this upcoming week's Cannes Film Festival. You know...that little film festival that only everybody in the entire film universe will attend. Usually, a good sophomore effort by a horror filmmaking maestro is a rarity...let alone a great one. So, it remains to be seen if American Mary will be a film that will garner the praise from the horror community that the Soska sisters deserve for being the bold filmmaking duo that they are. We, here at Film Deviant, are betting that American Mary will blow our fucking minds away. For starters, the film stars the iconic (and beautiful) Katherine Isabelle as a young woman thrust into the seedy world of underground surgeries. If you don't know who Katherine Isabelle is...then, well...you should probably get on that...like right now.

Jen and Sylvia Soska were born on their mother's birthday...on April 29th. How cool is that??
