Flashback Weekend 2011!

So, Flashback Weekend was in Chicago this past weekend and Film Deviant was there to cover every gory detail!

First and foremost, I must say...the Horror Con was held in the ballroom of a Crowne Plaza hotel and it felt really tiny for a convention. The Wizard Comic Con was held across the street at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center...which is really huge in comparison. So, it was interesting to see how small the genre remains in contrast to the pop culture mammoth of the Comic Con. Still...Flashback Weekend enjoyed a sizable turnout despite the miniscule location.

To be in the same room with the horror icons that I grew up with was pretty awesome. Guests included Doug Bradley (Pinhead), Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees, Victor Cromley), Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding), Lance Henriksen (Near Dark), Michael "The Rook" Rooker (Henry), Linnea Quigley (pretty much most of my childhood fantasies), Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork fuckin' Orange) and Freddy Krueger himself...Mr. Robert Englund, who was so popular he needed his own room. I felt very much at home...especially when I got a handshake from Malcolm McDowell, whom I've looked up to since a child.

There were other guests in attendance like some of The Walking Dead cast, the girls from Night of the Comet. The still hot Ashley Lawrence from Hellraiser and Jill Schoelen from the original The Stepfather. The classic Christina Lindberg...as well as the insanely-hot-in-person Scout Taylor-Compton who you'll remember from the Rob Zombie Halloween remakes.

Scout informed me how she was beginning production on Halloween 3 which is kinda cool...as long as Rob Zombie isn't allowed anywhere near the set. And in other news...Mr. McDowell, who coincidentally co-starred with Scout in the Halloween remakes and stressed that he had no interest in reprising his role as Dr. Loomis, stated that he enjoyed his time working on the Silent Hill sequel...a film that I am super eager to check out.

The awesomely awesome Svengoolie was there to MC a horror costume contest...in which he managed to do a damn fine job providing the audience with laughs using his usual brand of dark tongue-in-cheek comedy. Stand out costumes included a really well done Creeper from Jeepers Creepers, a really convincing trio of Freddy, Jason and Michael Myers...as well as the Toxic Avenger. Unfortunately, some girl dressed up as Tank Girl won...which leads me to believe that the entire contest was fixed.

In all...it was an amazing time had by all in attendance and I can't wait to be back next year!

Many thanks to Nathan Dant for his photographic skills and Scout Taylor-Compton for being hot!

Thanks for reading,

bryan.
